Challenges use virtual balances. Trades are simulated and do not execute on real prediction markets.
The prop firm model is simple to describe. Traders pay for an evaluation. Most do not pass. The ones who pass get a funded account and a share of their simulated profits as payouts. The firm keeps the difference between fees collected and payouts and costs paid out.
Prediction market prop firms follow the same model on live event markets. Traders use virtual balances, and trades are simulated. This guide explains the revenue lines, the cost lines and the metrics to track. The numbers in the example are illustrations, not benchmarks.
Where revenue comes from
- Challenge fees. The main revenue line. Fees usually scale with account size.
- Resets and retries. A trader who breaches can buy a reset or a new challenge, often at a discount.
- Add-ons. Options such as a higher profit split or a longer challenge window.
- Repeat purchases. Funded traders and near-misses often buy additional accounts.
Where the money goes
- Payouts to funded traders. The largest variable cost, and the one that decides profitability.
- Acquisition. Affiliate commissions, paid ads, creators and promotions.
- Payment processing. Fees and chargebacks across your payment methods.
- Verification. KYC checks per funded trader.
- Platform and operations. Software, support, payout review and compliance advice.
An illustrative month
The table below uses made-up round numbers to show how the lines interact. Your own figures will differ.
| Line | Assumption | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Challenges sold | 1,000 at an average of $100 | $100,000 |
| Affiliate and ad cost | 20% of sales | −$20,000 |
| Payment processing | 4% of sales | −$4,000 |
| Funded traders | 6% pass both phases: 60 traders | |
| Payouts | One in two funded traders paid, average $800 | −$24,000 |
| KYC, platform and support | Fixed and per-trader costs | −$15,000 |
| Contribution | $37,000 |
Small changes move the result a lot. If the pass rate doubles because the rules are too loose, payouts double. If affiliates take 35% instead of 20%, most of the margin goes with it. That is why the rules, the payout review and the affiliate terms matter as much as the marketing.

Book a DemoThe metrics to track from day one
- Pass rate by phase and by account size. The single most important number for payout cost.
- Payout cost as a share of fees. Track it monthly and by cohort.
- Customer acquisition cost by channel and affiliate. Some affiliates bring buyers, others bring refunds.
- Repeat purchase rate. How many traders buy a second challenge or a reset.
- Breach reasons. If most breaches are on one rule, check whether the rule is clear.
- Time to payout. Slow payouts damage trust and referrals.
Rules are a pricing decision
Profit targets, loss limits, stake caps and consistency rules decide the pass rate, and the pass rate decides payout cost. Design them together with your fee schedule. In prediction markets, pay particular attention to long-shot contracts and correlated markets, which can let a trader pass on a single event. The how prediction market prices and P&L work guide explains why.
Affiliates drive growth, and cost
Most prop firms grow through affiliates and creators. Track each affiliate by sales, refunds, chargebacks and pass rate, not just clicks. OLATECH includes affiliate programs alongside checkout, so commissions and customer records stay connected.
Running it on one system
Every metric above depends on connected data: checkout, challenge accounts, rules, KYC, payouts and affiliates in one place. OLATECH provides that in one platform under your brand. How does a prediction market prop firm make money?
Mainly from challenge fees, resets and repeat purchases. Its main costs are payouts to funded traders, acquisition, payment processing, KYC and operations.
What pass rate should I plan for?
It depends on your rules and audience. Measure it by phase and account size from launch, and adjust rules and fees together.
Does OLATECH set my prices or rules?
No. Your firm sets fees, account sizes and rules. OLATECH is B2B software that runs them. It is not an exchange, broker or betting operator.
